Autory v3.4.0

Variable-set, valuation-type, group, subgroup, and format-group dropdowns now update when you edit table values or rows and Excel recalculates. Use rebuild caches on the Autory ribbon after adding renaming, or removing whole model tables.

New model workbooks include this change. Existing workbooks need to opt in by patching. Patching will remove the old Update drop-down lists links from your workbook.

The new dropdown formulas need newer Excel functions which are only available from Excel 2024 or Excel 365. Excel 2021 can apply the patch, but the dropdowns will only start working when you move to a newer Excel version. This does not affect the correctness of the run. The dropdowns are purely for convenience.

Manage entry points from the ribbon

The new Entry points group provides Sort and Format actions for user and master entry-point tables. Sort clears filters and puts entries in a consistent order. Format restores the standard conditional formatting and divider.

Patching will remove the old sorting links. See using the Autory ribbon.

Save & Run buttons have moved

Patching will remove the Save & run and Save & run multiple buttons from your workbook. These are available on the ribbon instead.

Import and export workbook tables from the ribbon

The ribbon's Version Control group now has Import and Export actions that work from any sheet. Export includes unsaved edits. Import updates the open workbook without saving it.

Patching will combine the VersionControl and VCS sheets into one, and create a new VcsSettings table on which to configure the import and export paths. It will also remove the VCS buttons. Use these replacements:

Previous worksheet control Replacement
Import deployed tables Import on the ribbon.
Export tables Export on the ribbon.
Update tables Edit the List of workbook tables on the VCS sheet manually.
Deploy Run autory vcs workbook deploy on the command line.
Update workbook to latest Autory Follow the workbook patching guide.

See workbook version control for setup, export-list editing, and deployment instructions.

Other fixes

  • Model data is no longer ignored just because a worksheet name starts with an internal name, such as HierarchyAssumptions (Hierarchy is an internal name) or ListsOfRates (Lists is an internal name).
  • Hierarchy configuration tables can be moved to other sheets without being mistaken for ordinary model data.
  • The VBA engine recognizes all valuation types in an automatically expanding list.
  • Workbook patching preserves unrelated sheets' password protection, if any.
  • Hierarchy property examples now use the correct settings table name.

All new workbook patches in this release are optional. See upgrading Autory, especially if you share workbooks with people using older versions.
